1.传说春秋时伍子胥为吴王所杀﹐尸投浙江﹐成为涛神。后人因称浙江潮为"胥涛"。亦泛指汹涌的波涛。
相传伍子胥死后为涛神，故称潮水为「胥涛」。《宋史．卷九七．河渠志七》：「惟是淛江东接海门，胥涛澎湃。」
