“元间”一词最早出自1983年全国生物全息律学术探讨会上发表的陈世忠的一篇论文，用以表述与时间、空间、能量、物质并列的五维体系中的一维。2001年，郭绍华出版《物质与元间的世界》一书，书中将“差别形式”定义为“元间”。
