[numerous people] 指很多的人
众多的人。如：「他所犯的罪行，为千夫所不容。」
秦汉时按武功赏赐的爵名。
《史记．卷三○．平准书》：「千夫如五大夫。」
唐．司马贞．索隐：「千夫，武功爵第七；五大夫，二十爵第九也。言千夫爵秩比于五大夫二十爵第九。」
《汉书．卷九○．酷吏传．杨仆传》：「杨仆，宜阳人也，以千夫为吏。」
千夫，特指众多的敌对者。 毛泽东《在延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》五：“ 鲁迅 的两句诗，‘横眉冷对千夫指，俯首甘为孺子牛’，应该成为我们的座右铭。‘千夫’在这里就是说敌人，对于无论什么凶恶的敌人我们决不屈服。” 陈毅《读时下杂文因忆鲁迅为长歌志感》诗：“甘为孺子牛，敢与千夫对。”
